I’ve been a part of the body-mod industry since 2014; starting as just a high school student with a co-op placement for piercing. The co-op quickly flourished to an apprenticeship, before graduating. In 2016, I moved shops, being called to further expand my knowledge & a change in environment. In 2018 I apprenticed for tattooing, & have been blessed to permanently adorn bodies for years since. The tattoos I make are a mix of styles— you pick it, I stick it, & if your pick is for me to pick then you’re likely getting freehand floral or skull in a neo-traditional-like style.
When I’m not creating on skin, I create figurative & landscape pieces with abstract elements. This is done through an intuitive process; a blend of seeing, hearing, & deep feeling. Unless a series of pieces is intended, there’s no real theme or consistency— just me & my bodies creating what feels right. An incredibly meditative process. No limit to texture or colour palette, just tuning in— or out? If a label were to be present, it would be “ethereal” (other-worldly). Different colours & textures pull different types of attention & make different connections to others. Diffferent feels. I love hearing what other people see & feel in the pieces I bring to life; sometimes it’s what I was experiencing, sometimes it makes me view my own work from other perspectives. That’s most enjoyable.
Herbalism came from a love for plants & having my hands in the soil. As an Earth sign, being outdoors is more of a belonging for me. After discovering herbalism, I was immediately pulled to it. Accompanied by the need for feeling a deeper connection to Earth & self. Through this, building personal gardens with native plants to better the critters we habit alongside. Walks along new paths always begin with greeting, those paths often show me what plants I already have a deep connection with, along with who to connect with next— although some plant allies always are a part of me.
Growing up to become a full time artist isn’t surprising, as it’s always been a consistent part of who I am; even before I could run. Connection of my bodies & Earth heavily influence my work. There’s a piece of me in every brush’s stroke, regardless of medium. Creating is part of who we are. To me, art is supposed to make you feel something, instead of being so technical with rules— without limit, more freeing, doing what feels right.
